Pilot results in $1 million annual savings for local manufacturers
Seattle, WA -- Governor Jay Inslee, Impact Washington and Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) rolled out the results of a pilot project that is predicted to collectively save over $1 million annually for a group of small and medium size manufacturers.
The pilot is funded by a federal grant awarded to the Washington State Department of Commerce to help small and medium size defense manufacturers respond to global pressure to lower prices by as much as 15%, cut turnaround time and invest in expensive, new technology.
In 2015, Impact Washington implemented six pilot projects to address the negative impacts on manufacturers in the defense supply chain due to military expenditure reductions. The projects assessed six companies ‘capabilities to diversify, aided in development of a strategic diversification direction for each to pursue, and improved operational excellence and re-engineered business processes with Impact Washington’s NextGen Lean program to enable them to compete successfully in the highly competitive landscape of global manufacturing.
“This program is a stellar example of the possible benefits of Public/Private partnerships. Federal and State leadership coupled with technical expertise from Impact Washington generated some great results for our pilot companies. We look forward to expanding this work in Washington State across multiple industries” Loren Lyon President, Impact Washington
Partners/What People are Saying
“One of our pilot companies (Jorgensen Forge) is excited by this program and the approach. Even though the principal person in the pilot was skeptical, he now sees the benefit. As a result, they have asked for further support from MEP Impact Washington to begin work in another area of their business. They are convinced this program will help them become a more competitive and effective participant in the supply chain.” Sarah Stuart, Impact Washington
